Analysis of school data revealing academic strengths?
• All areas overall are improving in reading with healthy cohort growth. DES moved up 7
percentile points in the A+ grade in Reading.
• Fourth grade proficiency improved from 69-85%. Cohort group 80-85%
• From test 1 to test 3 on the DEA first grade moved from 70 % proficient to 86 % proficient.
• Second grade students moved from 82% proficient to 88% proficient.
• Third grade students moved from 75% proficient to 84% proficient.
• Kindergarten DEA Foundations is up from 75% proficient in 2013 to 84% proficient in 2014.
• First grade ELL cohort group improved in Foundations; 70-79%.
• ESE third grade students are 75% proficient on the FCAT information strand. This group of ESE
students moving into 4th grade is relatively strong with percentages in the 70's with the exception of
application at 64%.
• Our 2nd graders moving into 3rd are strong at 88% proficient.
• The ELL group going into third is strong with 82% proficient in language , and 70% proficient in
foundations.
• Fourth grade average DSS gains are healthy at 11.2 (district average is 9.2) however learning gains are
currently at 73%, leaving room for improvement.
• 50% of our level 5 students in third grade dropped to a level 4 in fourth grade. • K-2 students score the lowest in information and literature on the DEA. • Information and Literature are also the weakest strands for ELL,ESE and F/R subgroups in grades k-2. • Strand scores for all curriculum and subgroups even out in 3rd and 4th grade without significant discrepancies
between strands with the exception of the application strand for our 3rd grade ESE students.
• Our fourth grade ELL is below the district average and is also showing below average learning gains.
• Writing is a challenge area with numbers not proficient in Florida Writes ranging from 2 - 10 students per
classroom. Overall only 68 % of our students were proficient on the 4th grade Florida Writes exam with
only 47% of students scoring a 4.0 or above. There is an opportunity this year to improve writing skills and
specifically writing in response to reading

• Acceleration of overall Math proficiency in 3rd grade - 64%-83%
• DES moved up 13 percentile points in the A+ grade in Math.
• Most cohorts demonstrating progress : KG- 1st= from 90% to 92%; 2nd-3rd= from 66% to 83%;
3rd-4th= from 63% to 84%
• 4th grade learning gains are solid across the strands- 87% overall with an average gain of 20.7,
while 100% ELL make gains; 85% of lowest 25% made gains
• Specific strands of strength by grade level:
• KG- Operations & Base10;
• 1st- Measurement & Data and Base 10;
• 2nd- Operations & Geometry; Level 4/5 west from 38% to 70% (but cohort went from 84% to
70%);
• 3rd- Operations- 86% from 77% with ESE at 83%; Level 4/5 went from 29% to 52% with cohort
growing from 38% to 52%;
• 4th- Number/Base 10- 85% from 66%; Level 4/5 went from 39% to 62% with cohort growing
from 29% to 62%
• ELL students significantly below their peers in all levels and strands;
• Specific strands of weakness by grade level:
• KG- Measurement/Data & Geometry with 76% proficient; (ELL significantly
below peers but in line with district trends; Level 4/5 went from 75% to 53%
• 1st- Operations with 68% proficient & cohort went from 78% to 68%; Level 4/5
went from 84% to 64% and the Cohort went from 75% to 64%
• 2nd- Measurement/Data with 79% proficient
• 3rd- Fractions with 76% proficient but up from 63%; ELL has 50% proficient
overall
• 4th- Geometry with 74% proficient (was 81% in 2013); Cohort went from 82% to
74% proficiency); ESE has 60% proficient overall
