Calcium cycle

What Is Calcium?

Entering the soil

-It is one of the mineral cycles in earth

-It shows how calcium is extracted from earth and living organisms

-It also shows how it is returned to earth

-Soft gray alkaline earth metal

-Chemical symbol Ca

-Atomic number 20

-Atomic mass 40.078 amu

-Water moves calcium to and from soil by weathering

-In the soil, calcium is broken down until its in usable form

-it can be stored in rocks

-It can return from root leakage

-It can be absorbed by plant roots

Calcium In Human Bodies

How it Begins

When In Plants

Steps Of The Calcium Cycle

-From birth to death calcium is an element for human being

-beside its presence in bones and teeth the mineralized tissues contain 99% of the body's calcium

-it is present in blood, fluids, within the cells of tissues such as muscles

-necessary for release of energy in muscular contraction for nerve transmission, regulation of heart

-When taken in by plants, calcium is in an organic state

-Can be recycled between roots and soil

-If herbivores eat the plant, calcium becomes biosphere

-If plant or animal dies, calcium is returned to water or soil

Step 1: Weathering Away of rocks that contain calcium carbonates

Step 2: Calcium flows into the ocean and stays there for years

Step 3: Eventually it returns to the land due to precipitation

-It enters the biosphere from organisms or dust

-The calcium in animals bodies are decomposed and enter soil when they die

Calcium Importance to Life

The Calcium Cycle

-In early life, it helps build strong bones and teeth

-Helps muscle contraction, body processes

-Plants need calcium to help cell wall and metabolism

-Calcium is a mineral necessary for life
