Colony and Protectorate of Nigeria (Royal Colony) is formed by combining Northern and Southern Protectorates.

British begin direct taxation on Nigerian Colonies

Nigerian Constitution passed by Britain frees Nigeria of all British rule

Lord Lugard named governor of both Northern and Southern Nigeria and establishes "indirect rule" system.

Indirect rule: system in which areas are governed by local officials allowed to lead as long as they collect taxes and perform other acts that secure the prosperity of Britain

British Establish Presence Near Lagos:

Under the leadership of Frederick Lugard begins to colonize Northern Nigeria, splitting the region in northern and southern political regions, following Berlin Conference in what is known as the "Scramble for Africa"
