2011 Champions League
Early Life
Messi won the 2011 Champions League with Barcelona. He scored a goal in the final to give Barcelona a 3-1 win over english club Manchester United.
Lionel Messi was born in Rosario, Argentina on the 24 of June 1987. He was diagnosed at a young age with a hormone deficiency that restricted his growth. He has 1 sister and 2 brothers.
Early Barcelona Career
When he was diagnosed with growth hormone deficiency his parents tried to find a soccer club in Argentina to pay for the exspensive treatment. No teams did. One day he was scouted by a director of sport from the world famous spanish team F.C Barcelona and they offered to pay for the treatment as long as he moved to Spain and played for there youth team. That is how his career began.
4th World Player of the Year Award
In febuary 2013 Messi won his fourth world player of the year award.
Path to the First Team
Messi moved through the youth ranks quickly. 2 years after moving to Barcelona he was already playing on the B team. In 2003 he made his official first team debut at 16 years of age.
2009 Breakthrough Season
The 2009 season was his breakthrough season. He won his first world player of the year award and 3 trophies with Barcelona
