He watched the projection screen as they showed his name next to the samples collected from the victims. Prosecutors showed the jury a blurry surveillance video of one of the murders. The Turner case was used to promote Proposition 69: a 2004 initiative that called for databanks to collect DNA samples from arrested felons.

When Turner was arrested for and assault charge, His DNA was taken and run through the CODIS. It came up with matches to samples taken from 15 years prior to that.

For almost 2 decades, there were 11 unsolved murders in Los Angeles, California. All the victims were young women between 20 and 45 years of age. The victims were raped and then strangled. They were found partially nude in alleyways and dumpsters. Until DNA profiling and an arrest, the murderer roamed the streets for years.
