Pythagoras

What did Pythagoras do?

Pythagoras

Pythagoras came up with the Pythagorean theorem. A squared plus B squared equals C squared. He discovered irrational numbers (but this discovery was not made by himself and it also was against what he said. Pythagoras said that all things were numbers by that he meant the ration of two numbers. He also discovered the first five regular solids, the tetrahedron, octahedron, icosahedron hexahedron and dodecahedron. Pythagoras taught that the earth was a sphere and at the center of the universe.

Pythagoras was born in about 569 and died about 475. He was born to Mnesarchus (who was from Tyre) and Pythais of Samos. He is often referred to as the first pure mathematician. We have no record of Pythagoras' work. He led a society which was half religious and half science, they followed a code of secrecy which means we have know knowledge of it and it shows that Pythagoras is a mysterious figure.

About Pythagoras

Pythagoras married a girl named Theano, together they had one daughter Damo and one son telauges. Pythagoras was a well educated man and played the lyre, a stringed instrument of the harp class, most of his life he also knew poetry and often recited homer.

"Numbers have personalities, characteristics, strengths and weaknesses"

"All members of society should have loyalty and secrecy"

There are many different thoughts of how Pythagoras died. some say he was chased and killed by an angry mob others say he was burned out of his school in Crotona and then went to Metapontum where he starved himself.
