Need for Advising

“We have long since left in the dust the notion that simply opening our doors to students is enough, that, once here, they can negotiate their own way through our often byzantine, labyrinthine curriculum, processes, and hallowed halls.” -Jayne Drake

Differences in Student Body

Each student is unique and their situations need to be treated as such and focus needs to be given to their individual needs.

Academic and career advisors are familiar with not just one academic area but must have general working knowledge of all resources and services on campus. Students don’t fit neatly into simple categories.

How to Emphasize Importance

Thank you!

So much more than a job description

“The beliefs, customs, arts, etc., of a particular society, group, place, or time” or “a way of thinking, behaving, or working that exists in a place or organization (such as a business)" or in our case a college campus.

-Merriam-Webster
