I think what the artist was trying to communicate about this artwork is the environment of the people during the night and how alive night can be. I think the emotions that Van Gogh portrays is excitement and the use of his imagination to make the night so bright.
I think the area of emphasis in this artwork is the light shining on the wall of the cafe. The artist made this area stand out by using a brighter color such as yellows and greens and browns. The area surrounding the cafe are darker by using lighter blues overlapping with darker ones making the cafe stand out with light.
I think the artist used form, color, and texture to create the shadows, the area of emphasis and the cobble stone path. The artist also uses contrast, emphasis, and rhythm to make the difference between the cafe and the houses and makes the artwork come together.
I really enjoy this painting because the use of color he uses in this is beautiful and the way he represents the night by contrasting two primary colors to make them have harmony is amazing. I chose this artist because i enjoy his art and the way he paints reality.
