Nightmare on Elm Street (2012 and 1984 version)

The plot for Nightmare on Elm Street is a character called Nancy Thompson and a a group of her friends are being tormented by a clawed killer in their dreams called Freddy Kreuger. He kills each person one by one in their dreams, and so Nancy has to think of a way to stop him.

This film is inspirational both old and the new

because of the use of different techniques used by make-up to create a scary appearing killer. This is beneficial for this type of film as it is a well known face in horror films because of its popularity in the media. Its unique selling point for the 1984 version is Johnny Depp, however was not considered a unique selling point until years later when he became a more known actor for a range of other genres.

Scream

The plot is about a killer known as "ghost face" who begins to kill off teenagers, and as the body count begins rising, one girl and her friends find themselves contemplating the "Rules" of horror films as they find themselves living in a real-life one.

The unique selling point of this film is again

the use of actor much like Nightmare on Elm

Street, using Courtney Cox as one of the main characters. This is effective in attracting audiences to this film as it insinuates that it should be successful.

Mise-en-scene

The use of mise-en-scene is effective for this film

because it is easy to identify. When you see this characters costume compared to other horror films it stands out because it has been broadcast through the media. A costume like this is something that can be taken as inspiration and used ourselves for our own trailer.

The plot is significant to the film because it has

been able to be included into a variety of different series. It tends to be trying to figure out who is the killer behind the mask. This is why the mise-en-scene is important.

The plot of the The Thing is set in a Antarctica research site, and it is about the discovery of an alien craft that leads to a confrontation between graduate student Kate Lloyd and scientist Dr. Sander Halvorson. As well as being a horror it is a mystery sci-fi.

The unique selling point of this film is the use of editing that is included to create the character that is to be feared of. By making it more realistic the film is able to make it more scarier to the audience when it kills.

Plot: After discovering an urban legend of a demented serial killer that has nothing but a carved 'smiley' on his face, Ashley, a mentally fragile teen, must decide whether she is going insane, or the next victim.

The use of titles for the trailer is effective as it sums up the appearance of the killer without revealing the plot for why the killer exists.

'Evil wears a smile'

The use of make-up is effective as it gives the overall illusion of the character to appear more scary. The smiley face makes the audience uncomfortable as it isn't supposed to be associated with horror.

This could be inspirational for us in creating our own idea. Something associated as fun could be changed to give the audience the opposite emotion.

Horror Genre Mood Board.

Smiley (2012)

By having the film set in a different area it becomes more interesting to the audience, also because of the unfamiliar surroundings it scares the audiences more when the horror scenes occur. It's one idea that we can't do as easily because we can't get out into different surroundings.

This film was made by a well known director by John Carpenter.
