It began play in April 2006 as the Great Lakes Indoor Football League (GLIFL). It was formed by Jeff Spitaleri, his brother Eric, and Cory Trapp.
The CIFL is plays by the same rules as the arena football league.
These rules are that the field size needs to be at least 50 yards long and 25 yards wide and the field goal post have to 10 feet wide.
There can only be 8 player on the field per a team at one time.
As of rigth now there are 10 total team active teams in the CIFL and one suspended team which is the Cincinnati Commandos

Detroit Thunder
Erie Explosion
Kane County Dawgs
Kentucky Drillers
Kentucky Xtreme
Marion Blue Racers
Owensboro Rage
Port Huron Patriots
Saginaw Sting
The marion bule racers (2011 and 2013) and the Saginaw Sting (2008 and 2012) are the only two actives teams that have left the CIFL and came back.
