Scientist John Hopkins has discovered that a cancer mutation can cause scleroderma. The disease can also be genetic , but no scientist has discovered the gene that causes it.
My mother has scleraderma was diagnosed when she was 8. She lost a finger in 2005 [ because her skin was too tight] and has a spinalcord stimulator in her back to keep her warm because her body can't keep itself warm. She had to move away from her family in Wisconsin because of the environment. She had been through many medications to help her hands and feet , and she has to suffer with it because their is no treatment. The doctors don't know where the disease came from , but she does everything the same and I admire her for that.
75,000 to 100,000 people in the US are suffering with scleroderma.
The HLA complex , which helps the immune system distinguish the body's own proteins and proteins made by invaders [ bacteria , viruses ] is affected.
As of now, there are no treatments for scleroderma , but medication can be prescribed for the affected areas.

One of my mom's symptoms is that she doesn't have any fingerprints because her skin is so tight.
The mutation is recessive , because if it was dominant , a lot more people would have it.
