What Happened?

The people of this tiny village have almost nothing to live on or in.

What is th Canadian Government doing about this abomination of Human Rights?

Also during this week, The cheif of the village was actually kicked out of Attawapiskat.

People are still living in sheds, some people are literally living in their neighbors backyards. As well as in tool sheds.

Even those lucky enough to have a home aren't all that lucky.

In most if not all of the homes, there is mold creeping around and destroying their homes and their lives.

So far there have been almost no significant changes and help in the Attawapiskat community.

There is the largest diamond mine in northern america right near Attawapiskat and the money goes to queens park and ottawa. None of it comes back to help the people who work in those mines and that desperately need help

A money problem?

even though they have received millions of dollars the leaders have squandered the money and they need to be called in to question

the leaders of Attawapsikat instead of building houses and provinding for the needs of their people decieded to spend federal funding for a restoration of their community on a new hockey arena and a new zamboni!

What is being done with the money from the goverment?

The leadership in Attawapiskat is extremely questionable.

there are about 90 families living in a sort of contractor's trailer with no heating or bathrooms!

The living conditions are some of the worst you could imagine.

The temperatures in Attawapiskat during the winter can get to below -50 degrees celcius!

Attawapiskat

Aprox. 4 weeks ago a tiny aboriginal village called

declared to the Canadian government, a state of emergency.

I believe that what has happened there in Attawapiskat is unexcusable. The Canadian government should not be trying to stall and make up excuses. They should have already gotten together a group of contractors to go straight to Attawapiskat and renovate as many homes as they can and put people in a safe and warm enviroment until the needs for housing is met. As well a portion of the money made at the Victor diamond mine should go towards the natives of Attawapiskat. What has happened here is deplorable and goes against many of the things that we stand by as Canadians.

The Canadian government has given over 90 million dollars to fund the restoration of Attawapsikat but it seems the money never made it to the town.
