Overall, Banff National Park is an outstanding, protected park. It holds a home for many plants and animals. Banff is also Canada's first national park meaning it has lots of history. for Being Protected

Banff National Park is a highly protected park due to it's history. Canada’s national parks are protected areas established under federal legislation to preserve Canada’s national areas. It must be protected so that the next generation can view and learn more of its history. The goal of Canada's national parks system, in addition to their role in representing and protecting examples of the country's geographic heritage. It is also to encourage public understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of our natural heritage.

Brief History

Banff Park is Canada’s first and most visited park. It was established in 1885. Banff is 6,641km and holds the longest cave system in Canada.

Archaeological evidence indicates that humans have lived in Banff for at least 10,000 years. The park is located in the traditional territory of the Kootenay (Koot-e-nay), Stoney, Peigan (Peg-an), Siksika (Sick-sika), and Tsuu T’ina (Tuu Tina) tribes.

With the signing of treaty 7 in 1877, the Canadian government extinguished First Nations to this land and sought to force these groups onto reserves.

Banff's Location

Banff National Park is located in Alberta, Canada;100 km west of Calgary in the Rocky Mountains. It stretches over 240 km along the eastern slope at the Continental Divide. Banff is located in a colder climate. The park is in an ever-green environment. Banff park is about 6,641km.
