Answer
First, a firefly is an insect that belongs to the Lampyride family. There are 124 species of fireflies in North America but mostly it is in the eastern states such as Pennsylvania, New York, New Hampshire, New Jersey and much more.
Secondly, bioluminescence is the reason why fireflies light up. Bioluminescence is the production and emission of light by a living organism. The glow is caused by a chemical reaction that oxygen and luciferin and luciferase are in the insects abdomen.
Third,the bioluminescence is %100 efficent it's like the lightbulb however, %10 of its energy is light and %90 is heat.
Next, juvenile are beneficial insects these insects dine on snails,slugs and aphids. When they are an adult, some of the fireflies species doesnt eat at all, but, some eat only pollen and nectar.
Finally, most are active during July and August because light show begins at dusk and ends at midnight. During the day fireflies hang on the tree branches and tree trunk like a bat.
