Migration to the Americas Cont....

This migration was an international migration because it was a permanent movement of the Clovis culture from Siberia to the Americas. This migration was also a voluntary migration because the Clovis chose to move on their own, they were not forced to move by any factors. The Clovis culture were influenced to migrate to the Americas because they are nomadic hunters that follow their game. This migration has completely impacted the culture that they migrated to because it helped develop all the civilizations that began to form from this migration, such as the Toltec, Olmec, Mayan, Aztec, and Teotihuacan. This migration expanded the entire population that was previously existent on the Americas. This migration can be applied to Ravenstein's Law of Migration because the law states that migration occurs in steps, and although there is no concrete evidence to show different steps of this migration, there is some scientific traces that show that over thousands of years the migrations slowly went down from North America to South America in steps or otherwise known as waves.

Second Great Awakening

The Second Great Awakening can also be understood as a great migration west. The Second Great Awakening was a Protestant revival movement during the early 19th century in the United States. With people very interested in the movement to the West, churches began to follow people westward and revive vital religions. Movement began around 1790 and gained momentum by 1800, it took place in several different episodes that were distinguished by locale and expression of religious commitment. In New England, the renewed interest in religion inspired a wave of social activism. In western New York, the spirit of revival encouraged the emergence of new denominations. In the Appalachian region of Kentucky and Tennessee, the revival strengthened the Methodists and the Baptists, and started a new form of religious expression the camp meeting. This migration helped to increase the population in the West and the development of more societies.

Migration to the Americas

It is believed that about 17,000 years ago, during the last Ice Age, ice sheets advanced creating a land bridge over the Bering Strait. During this time, nomadic hunters were following game herds from Siberia across the Bering Land Bridge into Alaska and then gradually spreading southward. This big game-hunting culture has been labeled as the Clovis culture.

This movement is an internal migration because it is the permanent movement of Protestant revivals to different areas of the United States, mostly from the northwest spreading down farther into areas like Kentucky, Illinois, and North Carolina . This is also an interregional migration because it was a permanent movement from one region of a country to another. The factors that pushed people to migrate to the West and be a part of this migration were things such as the renewal of religious faith, the encouragement given by the religions, and the thought of freedom in the uncivilized west. This second great migration had significant impact on American society because of shifts in the population, especially with people's interest in westward expansion. It also had impacts such as the advance in the liberation of women, a growing anti-slavery movement, and the emergence of evangelical religion. This can be applied to Ravenstein's Law Of Migration because the law states that within their own country females are more migratory than males, and with the advancement in liberation of women you can assume that more women migrated west than men. Also, the law states that rural dwellers are more migrant than urban dwellers, as you can see that most of the migrants came from small areas above New York.
