PETA vs ASPCA

Establishment and Mission

Missions Statements:

PETA-Animal Rights (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals): "PETA focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: on factory farms, in the clothing trade, in laboratories, and in the entertainment industry. We also work on a variety of other issues, including the cruel killing of beavers, birds, and other “pests” as well as cruelty to domesticated animals.

ASPCA-Animal Welfare (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals): "to provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States."

Founding

PETA: PETA was founded by Henry Beston in 1980 and is dedicated to establishing and defending the rights of all animals.

ASPCA: The ASPCA, the first humane society in North America and today one of the largest humane societies in the world, was founded by Henry Bergh and incorporated in 1866 by a special act of the New York State Legislature.

Personal Opinions

PETA

Although they have some good stances, their stance of animal rights goes against my views, as animal welfare is the way to go.

ASPCA

As an animal welfare advocate, I believe this is a great organization, as their whole purpose isn't about changing the way society functions, but rather, it prevents those few individuals from ruining the priviledge of have an animal for companion purposes.
