Gilded Age
The Gilded Age was a terrible time for pollution. During the industrial revolution coal was in high demand. In 1948 severe industrial pollution created a deadly smog in Donora, Pennsylvania and asphyxiated 20 people and made 7,000 more sick. In 1963 the clean air act was passed to help cut down on pollution.

Pollution has been a big deal for ever. Air pollution is the biggest environmental health and is affecting everyone. Air pollution can also occur inside, 4.3 million premature deaths have resulted in air pollution in the last 3 years. Electric power plants are also a big problem. Electric power plants release 2.2 billion tons of carbon dioxide each year, which is 40% of the nations emissions. Pollution is the main cause of the whole in the ozone layer.
Pollution has changed over the years, it has gotten bad then better then bad again. Pollution is caused by many different things, and there are many different types of pollution. For example air pollution, water pollution.

Effect
One of the main causes of pollution was coal. We used to burn coal to get the lights to turn on. As time has gone by things like cars,trains,airplanes,etc. have had a huge impact on pollution. Water pollution is also a major concern because it also has a great impact.
Some effects that come from burning coal are that when coal was burned it would eventually cause a smog which caused many health issues. Some effects that cars cause are that cars emit greenhouse gasses, like carbon dioxide. Some of the particles from the greenhouse gasses can land in the soil or grass and effect the food chain. Water is something that is easy and hard to pollute because it is easy for people to dump oils, gasses, and garbage into the water which can kill the animals and destroy their habitats. But there is so much water that it is hard to pollute it all.
