Why does it matter?

Memorial day is celebrated on the last Monday of May.

We must remember those who were deceased during battle, and honor them for their sacrifices and hard work to keep our country safe.

Memorial Day is a day of remembrance to those who sacrificed themselves to keep us safe. Some ways of remembering these men and women is throwing parades in their honor. Most may visit a cemetary to pay their respects. Others may throw parties and host barbecues on occasion.

Decorating soldiers' graves was an ancient custom. A soldier's grave was decorated before and even during the American Civil War. In 1966, Lyndon B. Johnson signed a May 26, 1966 proclamation that Memorial Day was began in Waterloo, New York.
