Communism

Communism is a theory (set of ideas) concerned with social justice

And that concludes our presentation :) Have a nice day!

  • It was first expressed by Greek Philosopher Plato in the 300's B.C.
  • The term was first used to refer to any society in which property could be held in common (owned by everyone)
  • The first Communist country was the Soviet Union
  • The leading theorist of Communism was Karl Marx

Collectivism

Connections to Animal Farm

  • Collectivism is a political or economic theory advocating collective control esp. over production and distribution.
  • In Communist Russia, Joseph Stalin collectivized almost all of Russia's farms. he took away land that Vladimir Lenin had given to peasants, and took over the farms.
  • Millions of peasants were working hard to produce food and supplies for the country, and barely any of it was given back to them.

How Collectivism Relates to Animal Farm

How Communism Relates to Animal Farm

In the late 1930's, the system began to break down, peasants no longer wanted to provide food for Russia while they had almost none

Animalism is symbolism of Communism, which is used as a "code" for all of the animals at the farm. Also, back when Communism was used in the 20th century, everyone who believed the best in Communism, considered to be equal with one another. On animal farm, all of the animals who were in a way controlled by the pigs, were told that everyone was equal, and all but few loved the idea of it.

  • Mr. Jones and his men forced the animals on Manor Farm to work for them. They took all the benefits and let the animals live in a terrible state. In Russia, collective farms provided food for all of Russia, like slaves.
  • After the rebellion, Napolean takes control and all animals are considered "equal", taking most of the benefits again, but this time, the animals think they are living on a better farm. Similar to this, communism made people think that they work for themselves, when they don't.

How do Communism and Collectivism Relate?

Communism and Collectivism
