Also managed by the Bureau Of Land Management is the Rice Valley Wilderness (RVW) within and near the Big Maria Mountains. The Big Maria Mountains rise above the Rice Valley to an elevation of 2000 feet.

There are little dunes that rise about 30 to 40 ft. high. There are also gently sloping Alluvial fans as well as rough, craggy peaks disrupted by steep canyons.

The Bureau of Land Management manages the BMM wilderness area for both protecting nature reserve recreation and recreation and tourism.
