ERIE INDIANS
The Erie Tribes Religion
The Erie Indians shared the same beliefs that other members of the Huron Indian tribes had. They believed in material objects, natural elements, and mythological beings. They believed that their religious objects were to have magical powers and could impact their lives.
Their way of life consisted of being a hunter or farmer. Erie obtained goods from the Susquehannock.
Erie history include in 1653 raided the Seneca but both sides agreed to a peace conference where Iroquois killed all the Erie who arrived.

- The Erie live in present day Ohio under Lake Erie.
- The Erie spoke the Iroquois language.
- They were enemies of the Iroquois Indians.
- They are from a branch of the Hokan-Siduan Linquistic.
Erie community consisted of scattered villages which were stockaded for protection.
They were traditional enemies of the Iroquois, and there had been many wars between them before the Europeans.
In 1615 Étienne Brulé met a group of Erie near Niagara Falls. So far as is known, this was their only encounter with Europeans.
It is very likely that many of the Seneca in Oklahoma today have Erie ancestors.
