LIPIDS

Nucleic Acids

Nucleic acids store and transmit genetic material to help proteins gain new information. Nucleic acids do not appear on the food pyramid because they're mostly genetic material and don't have a certain food group. Foods rich in amino acids and proteins are also rich in nucleic acids such as tofu, soy, meat, poultry, fish, and legumes. Even though nucleic acids are not on the food pyramid they help human development because they can conserve energy by not having to synthesize it from scratch. Nucleotides are monomers of nucleic acids, Nucleic acids are polymers and DNA polymers can be formed from monomers of Nucleic acids.

Lipids are the one of the main functions in your body because they store twice as much as energy as proteins and carbohydrates in the form of fats. Lipids are a vital part of the food pyramid because they help your body retain and store energy that you gain form different kinds of lipids such as fish oil, beef, and pork. You should consume no more than 20-35% of lipids for a healthy diet.Lipids are usually found in your cell membranes. Glycerol is a monomer of lipids while steroids are polymers.

Proteins

Proteins have specific functions in nutrition, transportation, and immunity for living organisms. Some are involved in helping structure while others help provide defense against germs. Proteins contribute to the food pyramid because they help control you weight better and are more fulfilling than carbohydrates. Some foods are very rich in proteins such as poultry, fish, beef, pork, and soy products. Protein should vary from 10-35% of your daily food intake Proteins are found everywhere like your brain, hair, nails, blood, and bones. A protein monomers are amino acids and polymers are polypeptides

Carbohydrates

Monomer

Carbohydrates also referred to as sugars are organic compounds that provide sources of energy and structure for living organisms. The carbohydrate food group is one of the three vital sources for survival, although it has no specific label on the food pyramid it is composed of diverse foods including grains, fruit, milk, and vegetables. The percentage of food consumption from carbohydrates should be 60%. Your body converts glucose to glycogen and stores it in the liver and muscles.
