Today basketball shoes offer more support than the chuck taylors everybody used. There are hundereds of different basketball shoes with different designs, colors, models and pretty much anything you can think of.
After Michael Jordans retirement, the "Golden Age" came about. It was called the golden age cause of all the new shoe technologies and player endorsements, like Allen Iverson signing with Reebok or Kobe Bryant who signed with Adidas (he would later make a deal with Nike) Today all of the big time players have their own shoes.
In 1984 the first "Air Jordan" shoe was manufactured for Michael Jordan and later released for public consumption. Jordan went on to become an influential player and came out with multiple pairs of shoes.
In the 1930's, the Chuck Taylors were introduced to the game of basketball. They were made of canvas and had a rubber sole.
