Today basketball shoes offer more support than the chuck taylors everybody used. There are hundereds of different basketball shoes with different designs, colors, models and pretty much anything you can think of.

Golden Age

After Michael Jordans retirement, the "Golden Age" came about. It was called the golden age cause of all the new shoe technologies and player endorsements, like Allen Iverson signing with Reebok or Kobe Bryant who signed with Adidas (he would later make a deal with Nike) Today all of the big time players have their own shoes.

Jordan Era

In 1984 the first "Air Jordan" shoe was manufactured for Michael Jordan and later released for public consumption. Jordan went on to become an influential player and came out with multiple pairs of shoes.

In the 1930's, the Chuck Taylors were introduced to the game of basketball. They were made of canvas and had a rubber sole.

Throwback Era

Towards the end of the 1990's, shoe companies started putting new twists on old shoes (mostly taking old shoes and just adding more colors to them).

Nikes First Basketball Shoe

On the 20 of November in 1972, Nike introduces its first basketball shoe, the Nike Blazer. This was the first shoe with the "Swoosh" on it.
