1) The steady state theory states that universe has always existed like it does now, and that it has not changed. Although a problem is that the sky at night would be lit up because of the billions of stars but its not, so this means that this theory is probably not correct.
2) The big band theory is states, the universe started by an explosion and everything has been moving away ever since. There are two main pieces of evidence for this: background radiation microwave radiation and red shift.
