Different Kinds of Informants

Intro

  • Surveillance is when a detective sits in their car, a car that is not marked NYPD but a car that has tinted windows and not one that will stand out to others, and observes someone.
  • My father does a lot of surveillance and while he sits in the back of a car for hours at a time, he video tapes and watches the surroundings of where he’s located.

One branch of the NYPD that puts their lives in danger everyday trying to protect the streets of NYC, is the Manhattan North Narcotics Major Case Unit. This elite unit deals with high end drug dealers, the big-name drug dealers, who sell large amounts of drugs such as cocaine and heroin.

Surveillance

Undercover Buys

Sometimes he has to sit outside a drug dealer’s apartment and see when he leaves, who he’s with and other information that could be helpful in the case.

He may also look for cars that pull up and record their license plate numbers, who their subject meets up with and exchanges (drugs or money) with, what floor he’s on or which apartment door he comes out of.
