The Origin Of Figure Skating

The dutch were the earliest pioneers of ice skating, as early as the 13th century and the skates were used to maintain communication within villages by skating. The sport eventually spread to England and they were the ones to create the first clubs and artificial rinks. In the year 1850 Edward Bushnell was famous for the invention of the steel blade, and Jackson Haines added elements of ballet and dance to give the sport some grace.
