European Union 14.2 + Vocabulary

1. How did WWI and WWII change the map of Europe? * Both caused expansion of borders, new countries to be formed, and caused borders to shrink*

2. What caused the EEC to form or what was the reason it formed? *To remove trade barriers for all kinds of goods, (European Economic Community)*

3. What did all the countries that were part of the EEC have in common? * A common market*

4. Why did the E.U form in 1993? *Maastricht Treaty*

5. What were some common goals of the E.U.? * To create jobs, protect citizens rights, preserve the environment, encourages people and prosperity or economic well being

Physical Geography

1. Which direction does each river flow? * Down the mountain/ Down from a higher elevation*

2. How do we know which direction each river flows? * Because rivers cannot flow upwards*

3. Why does the flow of the rivers matter? * Because of transporting goods, you have to know what direction the river flows to travel from one place to another*

2. Identify E.U POLITICAL FORCES.

a. Centripetal- Brings member together to solve issues that they share, all are citizens of Europe, they can live and work wherever they want, (like in other European Union countries) one voice for all members.

b.Centifugal- Countries don't want to give up power when they join the E.U, the E.U is growing, European citizen-ships are hard for some Europeans to adapt to.

1. Identify E.U ECONOMIC FORCES.

a.Centipetal- Common currency, lower prices with no trade barriers, outside countries are eager to do business with the E.U.

b. Centrifugal- Western member are wealthier than eastern members, living costs are higher in western Europe, wage differences, some countries have not adopted the Euro.

a.Centipetal- Common cultural symbols, common national anthem, supports many cultural programs, encourages youth to learn other languages.

b. Centrifugal- Europe remains diverse, many languages are spoken, shared cultural identity- competition & rivalry between countries.
