Olathe Police Department

The Olathe Police Department Currently has 183 spots available for sworn police officers but only 172 spots are filled. The Olathe Police Department already has many social media accounts such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, but no YouTube channel. Making a YouTube channel would increase the amount of good quality candidates that come into the department.

History:

April 7th: The OPD was founded by the City Government

1959: Dispatch was created

1988: Search Warrant Team was created

1995: K-9 Unit was created

1996: Bicycle Unit was created

1997: Traffic Unit and Motorized Bicycle Unit was created

The original purpose of the OPD was to enforce and regulate laws from being broken.

Knowing the history gives the candidate a stronger sense of what they're applying for and gives them a basic idea of the opportunities the agency has.

Authority: If used efficiently, YouTube marketing can help build trust and establish an organization as having authority. YouTube makes it easier and more officiant to connect with their viewers. YouTube is also the second largest search engine online, which offers departments a platform to gain viewers and employees.

Engagement: Engagement is key for success when it comes to recruiting people. People enjoy watching videos. They are a great way to connect with the viewers and it provides a more hands on feeling then other traditional marketing tools.

Getting Setup:

Comments and Feedback: YouTube also has a commenting feature that allows people to post feedback on the video. This provides an opportunity to interact with potential candidates and acknowledge concerns or questions.

Why two videos?

Step 1: Go to YouTube and sign in: Go to YouTube.com and then click on the top right corner of the page. Then log in using the Google Account you'd like the YouTube page to be associated with. (Example would be olathepolicedepartment@gmail.com)

Users: YouTube is ranked second out of all social media. This shows us that a lot of people are interested in YouTube and that a lot of people use YouTube and have an channel.

Step 2: Head over to the YouTube settings: In the top right corner of your screen, click on your profile icon and then on the "Settings icon"

Step 3: Creating your Channel: Under the settings , you'll see the option to "Create a Channel" click on this link. Next you'll have the option to create a personal channel or create a channel using a business or other name. Then name your channel and select a category

We chose to show two different types of videos because YouTube offers you a lot of variety. These are just two examples of videos that you could potentiality post on your YouTube account. The first getting the point of view from an officer and their opinion of the job. The second showing all the different units and what they do.

Cost: YouTube is also a free marketing tool. There is no fees to make an channel or to post a video. The only money being spent would be if you chose to spend money to make your videos.

Summary:

Our project is over how the Olathe Police Department can increase the amount of quality candidates they have. We proposed the idea to make a YouTube recruiting channel for the department. We think this is a good marketing tool because YouTube is a high grossing social media and it allows the viewers to engage with the department.
