Diagnosis
Substitution of thallium for potassium disrupts many cellular processes
For instance, thallium may attack sulfur-containing proteins such as cysteine residues and ferredoxins
Hair loss of the victims is common
After the discovery of thallium in his garage, Trepal was charged with seven counts of poisoning.
George Trepal was convicted and sentenced to death for the murder of Peggy Carr.

After a blood test thallium poisoning was confirmed.
As Carr’s condition became worse, and she fell into a coma and died
Thallium is the 81st element on the periodic table. It is typically found as a powder.
If more than 0.1 mg is ingested or absorbed through skin in an 8-hour time period it can be lethal
