Canada West was interested in gaining control of Rupert's Land, this is the purchase of Rupert's Land in the 1850, They think Rupert's Land (from Alberta to Ontario and Quebec up to Nunavut)is an economic potential.
People thought that the surveyors would divide the land into different lots, The government would sell the lots to settlers, The settlers would start farms on their lots. Fences would be built to keep livestock in and wild animals out. With the fences it would stop the traditional way the Metis are used to hunting the bison.
The Metis were also concerned about the way the land would be divided. The Metis like the farms to be long and narrow to let as many people as possible to have access to water.
A few key people involved were John A. Macdonald the first Prime Minister of Canada,
Lord Selkirk and the Metis which were the red river settlement.
On May 2 1670 Charles (the second) of England granted to the HUDSON'S BAY COMPANY a big portion of North America, named Rupert's Land in honor of Prince Rupert.
Rupert's land event affected Canada by granting Canada more land to expand and farm, also it prevented America from expanding.
Over half of the Metis at the Red River Area were descendents of people who had come from Quebec.
The main language of the settlement of Rupert's Land is french.
The non-Metis people were either Roman-Catholic Missionaries or Scottish farmers.
