Real-life applications of Calculus

What is Calculus?

Calculus is a branch of mathematics that has many vital applications in numerous fields such as; engineering, economics, genetics and medicine. It's usually called analysis and defined as the study of functions. Calculus includes the study of limits, derivatives, integrals, and infinite series, and constitutes a major part of modern university education.

Moreover, this presentation will focus on the application of Calculus in the field of Biology and aims to incorporate Calculus in the Medical field.

~Drug doses

~Drug decay

Calculus determines whether a medicine should be ingested or when a drug should be administered to a patient, based on body weight,age and according to the health condition. To do so, this formula can be used:

Calculus calculates how much medication is in the patient’s bloodstream after a long time, for example:

-One injection of 150 mg of a medication is given to a patient. The amount of the drug in the bloodstream decreases by 20% per hour.

where,

d = amount of drug

t = time in hours

k = absorption constant

Solution:

Therefore: all of the medication is absorbed out of the patient’s bloodstream and into the patient’s

body.
