Chinese Crossbows

Through the dynasties

What is a crossbow?

Where were crossbows made and how?

Crossbows allowed you to draw the bow, get it ready to shoot, and then stop it there, so you could shoot just by releasing the trigger.

A mechanical crank let you draw the bow much more easily than with your muscles alone, which allowed you to shoot much farther than with a regular bow.

What diferent types of crossbows were made?

For certain, there is the repeating crossbow.

There is also a crossbow( unknown) that uses a rope loop to reload.

Another is a crossbow (unknown) that reloads with a belt claw that you can use to pull the string back.

The giant crossbow was used on battlements.

There were handheld crossbows for when you are on horse back.

There was a multi-shot crossbow.

There was a repeating multishot crossbow.

How did crossbows affect history?

Crossbows helped the chinese fight back against the mongols that were on horseback.

They helped the first emperor, emperor Qin, win the war against the other chinese lords.

It traveled down the silk road and made the europeans have better chances in battle (Leonardo da Vinci even made another giant crossbow).

The terracota warriors in Qin’s tomb had crossbows

Are crossbows still used today?

Crossbows are still very much used in our times.

But not really for war anymore (although some groups like the chinese anti-terror squad still use them).

Crossbows now days are more for hunting and accuracy games. They are more advanced and have more accuracy and strength. They also have scopes on them so that the shooter can see better.

Who invented the crossbow?

Zhuge Liang invented the repeating crossbow in the 2nd or 3rd century.

The crossbow was first introduced in the fifth century BCE and was used in warfare between the warring states.

Crossbows continued to be a major weapon during the Song times.

But really, nobody will ever know who invented the crossbow.

A crossbow is a weapon that throws little darts at people. They are used during war.

The first crossbows were made in china. They use a trigger mechanism that you put inside the crossbow.

These triggers were made in iron or bronze.
