Photosynthesis & The Food Chain/Web
Parasitism: a relation between organisms in which one lives as a parasite on another.
Mutualism: a relationship between two species of organisms in which both benefit from the association.
Cows are consumers because they eat the producer.( doesnt have to eat a producer.
Predator: Any organism that exists by preying upon other organisms.
Predator
Prey
Prey: an animal hunted or seized for food, especially by a carnivorous animal.
Mushrooms decompose logs and other dead animals.
Decomposer: an organism, usually a bacterium or fungus, that breaks down the cells of dead plants and animals into simpler substances.
Consumer: an organism, usually an animal, that feeds on plants or other animals.
Producer: an organism,
as a plant, that is able to produce its own food from inorganic substances.
Grass takes in the energy from the sun and creates glucose.
How much is lost is lost in transfer?
Food webs
Each time a consumer eats something 10% is passed on. Energy is lost through mechanical, and heat energy to keep it living.
Energy amounts.
Food webs are more complex combining food chains together forming a web that shows multiple animals consmers, producers.
Energy is transferred down but we have to use some of the energy we have. So do other living things. When energy is passed down there is more energy in the producer and the producer uses it. Then a consumer eats the producer but the producer has less energy so the consumer receives less energy.
Food Chains
Food chains are how the energy is transferred down. Energy is starts from the sun goes to a producer, 1st consumer, 2nd consumer and tertiary consumer and etc.
Energy Transfer
Energy is needed for all living things and the way we get it is by eating. We can eat lettuce or steak and we receive energy from them.
Where does CO2 come from?
How do plants get energy?
C02 comes from people and animals breathing out giving plants their, "oxygen" We take what they put out and breathe it just like they breathe our Carbon Dioxide.
Plants receive energy by a process called photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is only used by plants because they have chloroplasts to convert sunlight to glucose.
What is needed for photosynthesis ?
Plants need three main things. H20, C02 and light energy. They process this through chloroplasts and use the glucose as energy.
