Released many different LEGO sets since the 1950s, including city, space, pirates, vikings, robots, dinosaurs, etc. Though some sets have including almost a military theme, there has never been a direct military-themed Lego set, because Christiansen has not wanted to make war seem like child's play.
Motto is det bedste er ikke for godt, which means "only the best is the best". It was created by Ole Kirk to encourage employees to never skimp on quality, which he believed in strongly. The motto is still used in the company today.
Many people have tried to imitate the patented LEGO design, using similar dimensions, and advertising their products to be compatible with LEGOs. LEGO has sued many of these companies, most cases not ruling in favor of the LEGO company. In 2010, the European Supreme Court ruled that LEGO's original eight peg brick design "merely preforms a technical function and cannot be registered as a trademark".
Established by Ole Kirk Christiansen, a carpenter, who began making wooden toys in 1932. His group became known as "Lego" in 1934, getting their name from the Danish phrase leg godt, meaning "play well". The company expanded to plastic toys in 1947, and in 1949 they produced the earliest forms of modern Legos.
