Field of Study

He had a doctorate degree in Philosophy, His earliest work was on Thermodynamics, He was a professor who taught Theoretical Physics at Berlin University. However, his main field of study was Quantum Mechanics .

How Did Contribute to the View of the Atom?

Max Planck, through his research, discovered "Quanta" which is a unit for energy that is emitted by light and other electromagnetic waves. These little tiny units were the basis of Quantum Theory.

Personal Info

Max Planck was born on April 23rd, 1858 and died on October 4th, 1947 (he lived to be 89). Planck was born in Kiel, Germany and died in Gottingen, Germany.

Interesting Facts

  • Considered being a pianst instead of physicist
  • Won the Nobel Physics Prize in 1918
  • He proposed Quantum Theory to the German Physics Society

What is Quantum Theory?

Quantum Theory is the understanding that there are particles that are smaller than an atom. Some of these particles, Electrons and Protons, make up the atom. Planck's discovery of Quanta helped lead science to the discovery of these subatomic particles.
