Mrs. Starch

Mr. Wendell

Metaphor- comparing two things directly by saying one thing "is" another

Idiom- common expression, not to be taken seriously

The protagonist in "Scat" is the biology teacher Mrs. Starch because when Libby loses her inhaler Mrs. Starch goes to search for it since she knows the woods best. She is also a protagonist because she stays with the baby panther to take care of it while Smoke tries to find the mother.

The antagonist in "Scat" is the an oil company called Red Diamond Energy. They use the states' part of the swamp and set fire to it to make the school field trip get canceled so they could drill oil. One other reason they aren't allowed to drill there is because that part of the Everglades is home to a endangered species of panthers.
