Carbon dating
Some carbon atoms ( also known as carbon- 14) are radioactive . Over thousands and thousands of years , the radioactive atoms break down leaving carbon (carbon- 12) . By measuring the amounts of carbon-14 and carbon-12 in a ancient objects, Scientists can figure out how old it is, in a process know as carbon dating.
Fossil fuels
All alive things on on EARTH use carbon to build up their bodies. Coal, oil, and gas are the remains of the bodies of animals and plants that have been beneath the earth for millions of years.
Carbon fiber
Carbon atoms can be joined into long chains of fiber that are 15 times thinner than a hair (human) , yet extremely strong. These carbon fibers are then added to other substances, such as plastics, to form strong, thou light materials known as composities
