  • once they started to face a strong army created by the states the whole thing just fell apart

12 delegates from 5 states (New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Virginia.) gathered to fix problems within the federal government with a constitutional convention of sorts.

  • The Battle of Yorktown took place in Virginia and involved a U.S Continental army led by George Washington and a British army led by a lord and Lieutenant General Charles Cornwallis. Due to the Americans winning this battle, it further increased the United States feeling of independence from the British.

The Federalist Papers were a collection of 85 and essays written by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay to encourage the Ratification of the Constitution.

Constitutional convention (1787)

  • first vote was suppose to

on July 22ND but due to

disagreements it was postponed to October 1777

  • There was the Albany plan before this that that had the same concept

The Treaty of Paris was signed by Representatives of Great Britain and the United States which ended the Revolutionary war which helped with the making of the Constitution by establishing that the United States was independent and people realized we needed our own rules.

  • The reason the Constitution was made was because it was apparent that the Articles of Confederation had many flaws such as the lack of central authority and the Constitution was accepted after three months of debate and after nine of the thirteen states ratified it.
  • The declaration of independence was the organized by the continental congress on June 4, 1776. It's main purpose was to announce it's dependance from Britain.
  • The Constitutional Convention was organized after shay's rebellion. It's main purpose was to gather delegates from the colonies to fix the articles. However, They ended up completely changing their main idea and tried to come up with a whole new system. Many compromises were made like the great compromise, which stated that there would be a bicameral legislature with proportional representatives for the house, and one representative per state for the senate. Another compromise was the 3/5 compromise, which for taxation purposes counted blacks and any other race as 3/5 a person. The last compromise was the Electoral college, which is the idea that the president and vice president would be elected every 4 years. All of the compromises were a part of creating the constitution we have today.
