AIR POLLUTION IN POLAND

Exposure to air pollution can affect everyone's health. When we breathe, pollution enters our lungs and can enter our bloodstream. It can also as cause or worsen many diseases involving the lungs and breathing, leading to hospitalizations, cancer, or even premature death.

Disastrous Effects of Air pollution

Types of Pollutants

Various Causes of Air pollution

  • Respiratory and heart problems
  • Global warming
  • Acid rain
  • Eutrophication
  • Effect on wildlife
  • Depletion of the ozone layer
  • The burning of fossil fuels
  • Agricultural activities
  • Exhaust from factories and industries
  • Mining operations
  • Indoor air pollution

Primarily air pollutants

SOME FACTS ABOUT AIR POLLUTION

can be caused by primary sources or secondary sources. The pollutants that are a direct result of the process can be called primary pollutants. A classic example of a primary pollutant would be the sulfur-dioxide emitted from factories

are the ones that are caused by the intermingling and reactions of primary pollutants. Smog created by the interactions of several primary pollutants is known to be as a secondary pollutant.

Secondary pollutants

Air pollution is also damaing the health of our planet by driving climate change

Children are highly affcted by air pollution. Exposure to air pollution is linked to respiratory disease, cancers and cognitve impairment in infants, children and adolescents

by Gabriela Kleczewska & Paulina Starczewska

Air pollution kills 7 million people every year, 4 milion of whom die from indoor air pollution

exemplary social movements that arose in response to air pollution in Poland

ACTIONS YOU CAN TAKE TO REDUCE AIR POLLUTION

  • Conserve energy (at home, at school, everywhere)
  • Use public transportation, bike or walk whenever possible
  • Consider using gas logs instead of wood

  • Mulch or compost leaves and yard waste

nine out of ten people breathe polluted air

91% of those premature deaths occurred in low-and middle-income countries, and the greatest number in the WHO South-East Asia and Western Pacific regions

The 10 most polluted cities in poland are

  • ŻYWIEC
  • PSZCZYNA

  • WODZISŁAW ŚLĄSKI
  • OPOCZNO
  • SUCHA BESKIDZKA
  • KRAKÓW
  • SKAWINA
  • NOWY SĄCZ
  • NIEPOŁOMICE

WHAT IS AIR POLLUTION?

It's a mix of particles and gases that can reach harmful concentrations both outside and indoors. Its effects can range from higher disease risks to rising temperatures. Soot, smoke, mold, pollen, methane and carbon dioxide are just few examples of common pollutants

WHAT IS SMOG?

a fog made heavier and darker by smoke and chemical fumes

also, a photochemical haze caused by the action of solar ultraviolet radiation on atmosphere polluted with hydrocarbons and oxides of nitrogen especially from automobile exhaust
