Prayer to St. Christina

Mighty and loving God, you kindled the flame of your love in the heart of your holy martyr Christina of Bolsena. Grant that we, your servants, may be filled with a faith as strong and powerful as the faith that sustained her in the midst of her trail. May we rejoice in her triumph, learn from her example, and always cling to your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and ever. Amen.

St. Christina Of Bolsena

By: Nicole Spadafora

St. Christina was a patron saint and a martyr (she was killed because of her own faith). She was a patron of Archers and Millers.

Canonization

St. Christina was pre-canonized which means she was not canonized by the pope. She was declared a saint by the catholic community. They felt she was a strong leader by showing people to believe in their own faith. She was brave enough to show others their faith.

Symbols

St. Christina has 2 symbols. One is the arrow because she was tormented throughout her life and was shot with arrows. Another symbol is the millstone. St. Christina's father tied her foot to a millstone so she would drown in the lake. The arrow represents strength and victory. The millstone symbol means to have courage.

Her Life Story

St. Christina was the daughter of rich and powerful magistrate named Urbain. Her father had a number of golden idols of Roman gods. St. Christina destroyed the statues and gave the gold and silver to the poor. Her father tortured her and did terrible things to try and kill her. She was thrown into a lake and an angel came to save her. Eventually her father died from spite. St. Christina was thrown into a furnace for five days but remained unhurt. She died later from drowning and being pierced with arrows by her tormentors. Her relics are now found in Sicily, Italy.

Why did you choose this saint?

what gifts of the Holy Spirit did this saint display in his or her life?

How does this saint inspire you?

I chose St. Christina as my saint because I found her story very inspirational. I was inspired by her unshaken faith and her deep understanding of God and all she stands for at such a young age. Even in the face of death she remained faithful to God and he rewarded her by sending an angel to destroy her tormentors.

St. Christina inspires me because of her compassion for the less fortunate and her fortitude even when her father tortured her. She was courageous because she understood what she needed to do and was able to withstand the pain she was put through.

St. Christina displayed Fortitude when she faced her tormentors by never breaking or saying she didn't believe in God to stop her punishment. St. Christina displayed Wisdom and Fear of the Lord because she was more wise than most her age, she realized that her father's statues were not as important as God's people but she knew the consequences of going against him. She had fear, wonder and awe for the Lord as she knew God would save her from her father and the tormentors.

How can this saint guide you in your life?

St. Christina can guide me in my life to better understand others needs and put them before my own. She can help me to trust God with my life and how I can be more humbly joined with God in my charity for others.
