  • Avoid overqualifying your statements. Instead of writing “I think the facts reveal,” come right out and say “The facts reveal.”

  • Inviting and effective title

  • Identifies & discusses a specific piece of media important to the author

  • Identifies & discusses a specific value held that the media has shaped in some way

  • Uses details & personal experiences to explore the relationship between the media and value

  • Show analysis and reflection & effective organization, clear language, and careful editing

  • Overall thoughts: main strengths and weaknesses?

  • Does the draft carry out the assignments?

  • Is the title relevant to the entire paper?

  • How does the intro capture the reader’s interest? Does the end wrap up the paper?

  • Is there a controlling idea or thesis present?

  • Sentences: which are well written? Which are weak? How can the well-written sentences apply to the weak ones?
