Figures of Speech

Metaphor

Simile vs Metaphor

Compares two things without using the words like or as.

Metaphors use the words "is" "are" "was" or "were"

Simile

Personification

A simile describes a noun (a person, place, or thing) by comparing it to something else. It always contains the words "like" or "as"

A personification is giving human traits to non-human things such as objects, or animals.

It's when you make these objects and animals do things humans would do.

Figures of Speech

A figure of speech is a word or phrase that has a meaning which is different than its literal meaning. In poetry, we use figures of speech to create poems, and explain concepts in a creative way.
