Analysis:

•We live in a society where if you cannot be independent and actually make an impact in society, then you are no longer valuable and looked upon as if you are just in the way

•The elderly often need more special attention and assistance depending on their needs, which can inconvenience other people, and lead them to just leave them in a home or treat them poorly

Three Steps of Action

Circle Of Action

Analysis

By applying the Circle of Action to my service work at St. Therese, I will be able to make a difference in the lives of many residents while at the same time combating social injustices taking place. I am thankful for this opportunity I have been given to serve.

At St. Therese, some Injustices I have

identified are...

Action:

*Lack of privacy for residents

*Sometimes they have to wait long periods of time

for assistance

Awareness

Action

*They're often ignored and not valued, especially for all their wisdom and life experience they have acquired over the years

*Some families that are perfectly capable of caring for their elders put them in nursing homes because they see them as a burden

*St. Therese, though has some flaws, overall provides a stimulating environment where people can have access to almost constant assistance when needed, provides them with meals, activities, church services, medical care, and many other needs.

*I am part of a loyal group of volunteers that are there for the residents to receive service from.

*I personally make a conscious effort every time I go there to make each resident I come in contact with’s day better and to be patient and open to serving them in anyway they need.

*Finally, when I have the chance I try to converse with the residents as much as possible and give them someone to share their life stories and wisdom with, which has been great for me to hear as well.

Some needs that I have identified are...

*patient, enthusiastic, relational staff and volunteers to help the residents

*people willing to come a visit residents,

especially ones without a lot of local family and

friends
