What made me decide to chose this author was that I really liked how she made a children's novel from incorporating her childhood experiences into her writings and becoming so successful that her novels became a huge hit in it's time and many novels came out of it.
What Katy Did was Sarah's most popular novel. The novel was about a young girl and her family having to deal with one of the daughters having a very bad illness.
Sarah Woolsey's novel was based on her and her life and the family in the novel was inspired by Sarah's family members. Sarah's novel became such a popular book that it became a series and many more novels soon followed.
Sarah Woolsey was born on January 29, 1835 and died on April 9, 1905. Sarah was an American children's author who wrote under the pen name Susan Coolidge. She grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. Woolsey was a nurse in the Civil War before she became and author. Woolsey is best known for her novel What Katy Did.

Sarah's life after writing:
When Woolsey began to stop writing she helped edit The Autobiography and Correspondence of Mrs. Delaney (1879) and The Diary and Letters of Frances Burney (1880), which was known to be her last work.
