IMPACTS OF WEATHERING AND EROSION ON HUMAN ACTIVITIES

Negative Impacts

  • Weathered rock materials are used by people for different construction purposes for example building of houses and roads etc.
  • Weathering and erosion also leads to the formation of new landforms which attract tourists and jobs are generated for people living there.

Positive Impacts

The negative effects of weathering and erosion on human lives are:

  • Weathering damages national monuments, historical buildings and other imperfections to stone, marble, wood and other materials.

There are many positive effects of weathering and erosion on human lives for example:

  • Weathering helps in the creation of soil which helps in the growth of plants and without it no other life could be supported.

  • Sometimes rocks are filled with precious minerals like calcium and phosphorous and when rocks break down due to weathering and rocks turn down into dust over centuries, minerals can be extracted from the dust particles.
  • Erosion by flowing water causes damage to human properties and the floods that are caused results in destruction of crops and farmers' livelihood is destroyed.
  • Acid rain caused by weathering causes damage to buildings and properties especially when it comes in contact with the limestone.
  • Soil erosion can also effect human activities such as when soil gets eroded it strips the land of that soil which makes the land bad for vegetation and farming.
  • Erosion of rocks causes landslides along with the tsunamis to occur which destroys the livestock, properties and buildings etc.
