Hope and Optimism

Rabbi Akiva and the other Sages see a fox trample over the Temple ruins. They all cry – but Rabbi Akiva laughs. When they ask him why, he replies that now that the Temple has been destroyed he could see certain prophecies coming true and was comforted that one day the Jews will return and rebuild the Temple.

Active Rebel

A mere 60 years after the destruction of the Beit Hamikdash, which resulted in no state of Israel, no sovereignty no hope?

What would you do in this situation?

Kiddush Hashem

What does this teach us about Rabbi Akiva?

Rabbi Akiva died in the hands of the Romans

Rabbi Akiva actively supported the Bar Kochbar rebelion, he fought against the Romans, with his students (he led a part yeshiva part solider group, sound familiar?)

He was arrested for teaching Torah

As he was being tortured to death, the words of Shema were spoken.

Bnei Akiva and Rabbi Akiva both value the importance of Israel knowing it is the only place where Jews should be

Rabbi Akiva was being tortured to death, yet was so happy, as he was given the opportunity to die Kiddush Hashem.

His last words uttered were One.

The Greatest Teacher

Rabbi Akiva had so many students, around 24,000

Ahavat Yisrael

These students became teachers themselves

His five main students were Judah bar Ilai, Rabbi Meir, Rabbi Eleazar ben Shammua, Jose ben Halafta and Shimon bar Yochai. All became great teachers themselves.

Rabbi Akiva is famous for saying the most important pasuk in the whole Torah is "Veahavta Lereiacha Camocha"

At Bnei Akiva we not only want to be great teachers but want to inspire our chanichim to be great teachers and want to continue to be madrichim in the Tnua.

True love for each and every Jew

Why is Bnei Akiva Named After Rabbi Akiva, There are many Rabbis we could be named?

The Ability to grow and change

Rabbi Akiva stood for all the things Bnei Akiva stood for and many more...

Something that we as Bnei Akiva can easily emulate. For all the Torah learning and ideals we are all worthless if we do not respect one another!!

A great Leader

Rabbi Akiva had a massive career change quite late in his life.

The Ability to grow and change

Massive Talmid Chachum

He went from being a shephard, to becoming a great Talmid Chachum

Hope and Optimism

Active Rebel

Massive Kiddush Hashem

Ahavat Yisrael

At 40 years old, he saw a drop of water falling onto a stone, this small drop of water had made a hole in the stone. Akiva thought, "if one drop of water can make a hole in the stone then at 40 I can learn Torah"

Massive Talmid Chachum

This is a great lesson for us all, it's never too late to grow and change, and we should always strive to improve.

Once Rabbi Akiva started he certainly made up for lost time

He became a huge Talmid Chachum, learning continuosly for 24 years

Rabbi Akiva derived laws from every tiny detail in the Torah, seeking to demonstrate how the written law contained the oral tradition.

One major part to being a Bnei Akiva madrich is setting aside regular time to learn Torah- a great place for this is at Limmud

Who Was Rabbi Akiva?

Rabbi Akiva is known as one the greatest Rabbis, Torah scholars and leaders in Jewish history
