War 1898:

During the Cold War the Soviets and Cuban government started secretly building military bases in Cuban in order to be closer to the United States. The United States military send a U2 spy plane over the island of Cuban and took pictures of the secret military bases. The Cuban Missle crisis is said to be the closest the United States and the USSR ever came to engaging in nuclear warfare during the Cold War. The US decided to quarantine Cuba instead of invading the small country. The Kennedy Administration told the Soviets that they would not allow any offensive weapons into Cuba until all the nuclear weapons and military bases were dismantled and destroyed. The Soviets did not want to surrender publicily but the leader wrote a letter to the US president saying they would do as the US wished. This event is important to US history because it was one of the major conflicts in the Cold War and it ended with a US victory.

On September 11th 2001, there were four organized suidcide attacks on the United States. The terrorist groups decided to attack New York City and the Washington DC area. The terrorist group Al Queda had hijackers take over four passenger planes that were crashed into the twin towers in NYC, the pentagon in DC, and the last crash landed in a field in Pennsylvania. This attack brought the country together. There was a strong sense of nationalism and patriotist for the first time in awhile in the United States. 1946-1991:

Immigration has been important to the US culture for many centuries. Immigrants have been coming into the country since the country began. In the early 1900's a large number of European immigrants started coming into the country. Many laws were written up and some were passed by congress to limit the number of immigrants into the US. These laws were later dismissed. Immigration is still important to the US today. Without immigration our country would not have as many cultures and ethnicities as it does today.

Women's Rights

1920:

The Great depression started with the wall street crash in 1929 and ended in the late 30's early 40's. It was a severe economic depression that spread worldwide. It was the longest and widespread depression of the 20th century. The depression originated in the US, and started when the stock market started falling. After the stock market crash it spread to almost every country. Unemployment in the US reached 25% and in some countries 33%.

Roaring 20's

1920-1929:

In August 1920 the 19th amendment was ratified into the constitution. The 19th amendment stated that no US citizen could be denied the right to vote based on sex. This changed things for women in the United States. Women were beggining to work more and they were starting to rely on men less and less. The 19th amendment made women all around the country feel equal to men. Without the 19th amendment there would not be as many powerful women in the United States. Women would still be looked down on rather than treated as equals.

The roariong 20's describes the economic prosperity in north america, london, berlin, and paris. The phrase emphasized the social, artistic, and cultural dynamism in this perios. Politics returned to normal, jazz blossomed, "the flapper" redefined women style, art deco peaked, and then the wall street crash of 1929 ended this era sending the US into the Great Depression.
