Her shrill scream tore through the silence of the night and as quickly as it began, it was over.
“Jen!” I shouted. Concrete dust burned in my lungs as I broke into a sprint, leaping over barricades, dodging gunfire. I could hear my comrades yelling at me. Cries of, “What in the hell do you think you’re doing?” But I couldn’t stay still. I couldn’t cower behind a half destroyed car while my sister was facing danger. I tried not to think too hard about what was happening to her.
