What is a prime number?

A prime number is a number that only has one factor pair.

For example

As an example 11 is a prime number because it only has one factor pair.

What is a factor pair?

A factor pair is two numbers that you multiply together to get another number.

Are any of these numbers prime?

22 is not a prime number because the factors are1,2,11,22.

49 is not a prime number because the factors are 1,7, and 49.

137 is a prime number because the only factors are 1 and 137.

175 is not a prime number because it ends in a five and if it ends in a 0 or 5 then we know that it is a multiple of five.
