The Five Pillars of Faith

The Five Pillars of Faith are a Muslim's

religious duties.

  • Pilgrimage is the fifth and final Pillar of Faith
  • In Arabic, pilgrimage is called "Hajj"
  • A Muslim is required to go to Mecca at least once in their life once they are "financially and physically", able to
  • All Muslims around the world come together at the Kaaba to pray
  • Muslims pray at the Kaaba because it is said that it was built by the prophet Abraham and his son Ishmael
  • Once a Muslim has completed the pilgrimage they are referred to as "Hajji" and is greeted and have a celebration once they return from their journey

Fasting

By Britney and Cristian

  • Fasting is the fourth Pillar of Faith.
  • Fasting in Arabic is called "sawm."
  • Muslims fast in the month of Ramadan for a period of time.
  • If a Muslim is pregnant, sick,or traveling then they do not have to fast but will have to make up for it later.
  • A Muslim is required to start fasting once he or she reaches puberty. Yet, you could still fast if you are young.
  • The Festival where Muslims celebrate the completion of the month of Ramadan is called Eid al-Fitr. This Festival means " Festival of the Fast Breaking." In this Festival, Muslims pray, have feasts, and give gifts.

The End!

The Declaration of Faith

  • The Declaration of Faith is the First Pillar of Faith.
  • In Arabic it is called the "shahada."
  • It states "There is no diety except God and Muhammad is the Messenger of God."

  • To convert to Islam he or she must say this profession to convert.

Prayer

  • Prayer is the Second Pillar of Faith.
  • In arabic it is called the "salat."
  • Muslims must pray five times a day at dawn, noon, late afternoon, sunset and night.
  • When Muslims pray they face in the direction of Mecca (the holy city of Islam).
  • Muslims pray at mosque, alone, or in a group in any clean location.
  • Muslims must clean their hands, mouth, nose, face, arms, and feet before prayer.

The Five Pillars of Faith are essential to the Islamic religon because they are the foundation of the Islamic religion and effect everyday life of a Muslim.

Charity

  • Charity is the third Pillar of Faith.
  • Charity in other words is called almsgiving (zakat).
  • Charity is to give a part of your wealth to the poor or needy and volunteer to help others.
  • Charity is the duty of all Muslims to give to those less fortunate
